1) New discs are not perfect. They are not
matched to the hub. On a wobbly hub, they will wobble. When
they wobble, it leads to brake pulsation problems. A disc
machined on the vehicles hub is NOT perfect; rather it is
MATCHED to the hub so that it does not wobble.
2) Many new discs are inexpensive. You will not make much
profit selling the low cost discs.
3) Many new discs are very expensive. Your customer will not
be happy when the price of the brake job doubles or triples
due to disc replacement.
4) Discs replacement either requires you to have discs in
stock or to order discs either of which can present obvious
problems. Machining on the car prevents these problems.
5) Some discs do not come off or go back easily. So if you
are replacing discs, some jobs will be slow and some will
be quick. This means you have a VARIABLE COST of labour. With
the Pro-Cut your costs are FIXED because you do not have to
remove the discs, and the procedure takes the same amount
of time every time.
You may have noticed a theme of Variable costs and Fixed costs.
When your costs are variable, you must charge accordingly
on every job otherwise risk sacrificing profits. When your
costs are fixed your prices can be fixed and you ensure that
you will always make profits. With disc replacement your costs
are Variable in 2 big ways (parts and labour) whereas with
the Pro-Cut your costs are fixed.
With all of these reasons why resurfacing discs is better
for you ( and your business ) than replacing discs one thing
is clear : from a business standpoint , the only time you
should EVER replace discs rather than turning them on
the Pro-Cut is when they are below the discard specs.
